“I don’t know if the WOX team will ever understand the impact they make. They’ve completely rewritten the script on how we should approach coxing, then backed it up by creating a space where young coxes (and slightly older coaches!) can ask questions and understand how to change the narrative on coxing in a boathouse.
Working with them over the past two years has totally transformed my approach to coxing - the key being that creating the space for coxes to be the team within the team rather than individuals in their own corner protecting “their” seat has been fundamental in how we develop and keep kids engaged and thriving. Not only has the open communication allowed the coxes to feel heard, but the wide variety of social media information has given the rowers in our community a greater understanding and appreciation for what they do day in day out and how difficult the coxes role is.
I’ve always been keen to support the coxes in the clubs I’ve worked in, but now I feel far more equipped todo that knowing I’m not only looking at the season ahead but able to help coxes with their long term development - not just the job at hand. The process is the priority and that isn’t defined by one race, one day or one session.
Thank you, I get a front row seat to watch the 15 coxes I work with flourish under your endless enthusiasm.”

“I first got to know WOX through the WOX Walks at Henley Royal Regatta, and it’s been a game-changer ever since. From webinars that helped me learn how to cox in English and how to prepare HORR, to their inspiring conference that got me into reviewing and sharing recordings. Most of all, WOX connected me with coxes around the world, many of whom I now see at international regattas. It’s an incredible community to be part of.”

“Firstly, just wanted to say thank you for a fantastic day - I originally planned to attend simply to ensure the college's First Eight cox could go. I possibly (arrogantly) thought I would know most of what would be discussed. I was totally wrong! I walked away with a student who had a huge grin on their face having thoroughly enjoyed their day, and I walked away with a note book full of new (seriously good) ideas. So, thank you for all your hard work and effort in pulling together a really enjoyable and inspirational conference.”

“WOX has been a major part in my development as a coxswain. Through hearing from the experts of the sport, I was able to gain all different types of advice ranging from, navigating the tideway at SHORR, how to attach onto a stake boat, interpreting telemetry data, advice on cox recordings and much more! It truly doesn't matter if you're a junior athlete who's just started coxing or someone who's coxed for many years, they have something for everyone. In September, I attended their first ever WOX conference which I really benefitted from as different sessions were carried out throughout the day and specified in lots of aspects of being a cox. It was also very useful to meet with other coxswains and learn from them. I don't think I would've ever been able to get this far without their support and kindness!”

“I will admit that coaching the coxswains is not on top of my list. I have always supported it and I recognise the importance but in the end, all I can contribute is what I like or don't like from a rower's perspective. The essence of coaching however, is not to point out the good and bad, but to actually facilitate the changes. Having had the honor and privilege to work with WOX was a game changer for our coxswains and myself. WOX really connected with the coxswains and in just a small amount of time had a huge impact on their demeanour, skill and application. The fact that the mentors have an outstanding knowledge and feel for a boat and the rowing technique makes them such a valuable partner in the launch. Just like in their coxing, they are able to explain simple changes that have a significant impact on individual rowers as well as a crew. Coming off a highly successful domestic season, we were fortunate to have WOX along for the finishing phase of training camp before traveling to Europe. Over the long season and continued training after, some of the Championship magic started to fade away. But the WOX mentors presence brought back the magic fairy dust, finding even more speed in the process!”
